TR450 scoop

Windham NY

Alla on muutamia kuvia kisoista, jäipä kennolle historiallinenkin hetki, Peaty sekunttia ennen pannuja! Kiitos kuvista Pyrylle ja Varpulle!

Chillaamassa Jillin ja Larsin kanssa.

Peaty ennen pannuja.

Voittajana on helppo haistatella kisaturisteille =)

mfb XC

Finnish DH national champs Day 1

A nice dry track, good sunny weather, mosqitoes and technical problems riddled day 1 of the Finnish national DH championships in Vuokatti.
Most of the elite riders are present, with the exception of Aki Ferm who injured his shoulder in practice. Our own riders, Ville Ormo and Kasper Nyman, had a good practice day even though the day started out pretty bad for Kasper. The Fox up front blew it's cartridge, which appears to be a common problem for the new forks. After frustrating moments in the pit we got a set of forks to borrow from the Länsiö brothers, thank you!
The track seems to be a 1:30ish one with a quick section out of the gate, followed up with a steep, rocky and winding section that took it's victims along the day. This section is followed by a fast part with a small double, turning into a short wooded section before the sprint at the end.
The race tomorrow is bound to be good. We wish our boys good luck and cheers!

Laajavuori.

Hi!
I haven't written any race reports yet so here is this years races so far.

Seasons first race in Laajavuori jyväskylä the track was nearly the same as last year. There had bean some changes to the track and they were working good and made the track a lot  better. Training was good and I was having a lot of fun on the track, making no major mistakes but staling in some corners but knew that I can do god here. Race day was on and I was confident for the race. Qualifying run was good and i was in reach of a top ten finnish. Just before my race run the wether tock a change for the worse and started raining. I wasn't that worried about it and it dint really effect my run. Run went good 2/3 of the track then I banged my pedal on a rock and almost vent over the bars of a jump came almost to a complete stop and had to go around the jump. The rock also broke the spring in my pedal and completely messed up the finnish of the track.

TR450 Heavily Oversold

I got an email from Sam at Transition Bikes where he said that the current and the
next production runs of TR450's are completely sold out. He also mentioned that
of the whole years production there's only six medium reds left. That means that
if you want a TR450 this year you'd better pre-order one now.

TR450 test ride at Otis

Finally, a real test ride with the new TR450. The trails: Otis Airforce Base, Massachusetts USA. This spot has lots of buff singletrack, to be honest, more suitable for my Covert. But, all the big hills up north or out west are still balnketed with snow, so this will have to do. It took 25 minutes to reach the only hill in the area, a 50 second fast ride of nice singletrack with a few off camber turns, but for the most part really easy going fast turns with nice banks to shoot out from.

My TR450 is the stock factory version, just under 40 lbs, a bit on the heavy side, but a very smoth ride nevertheless. Cheap as I am I went with the 2010 Boxxer (substantial save in $$$ compared to the Fox 40), despite all the bad reports earlier last year. The forks delivered by Transition are apparently of a newer production round and I got the fork set up to my liking, even though I run it at a looser setup to what is recommended for riders of my weight.

First impressions are very good and I Like this bike, a lot. Haven't tried altering the geometry yet, I'll have more on that when I get to ride something a bit hairier than Otis, which is however a very nice place! Have good rides and hope the snow goes away soon back home in Finland too! Picture credits go to Zach Bonin, thank you! Over and out.

Tr450 in Finland!

Well, finally the Tr450 has landed! The bike feels amazing, there is  absolutely no pedalbob, very responsive and smooth. Still waiting to get some more saddle time but the -15 celsius and 50 centimeters of snow is not that inviting.

Traitor lineup update

Hey!

Got a very nice e-mail from Joe at Traitor Cycles, the long waited lineup update is here and these are the final protos. We take pre-orders NOW and the product should be in some time in April.

The Ringleader and Luggernaut have seen updates, and they are looking very sleek and lugged in deed. New forks are in too. The all new race bred SS CC Crusade latest protos also arrived. You can find more info on the new bikes here. Further, expect later in the spring an all new entry level SS/Fix frame, the Cutlass, which will be the lineups most affordable bike.

Three, two, one... Done!

As happy an owner of the TR450 as you can find. The bike feels incredible (based on a short pedal down my street in the middle of the freezing night). Very solid, no racket or wiggle, just sold smoothness!

The only difficulty in putting it together was the attachement of the rear shock. The swingarm had to be opened in order for the spacers to fit inbetween. A small setback that took 10 min.

I <3 this bike!

Building building

This is the factory TR450 in progress. No changed parts, and I'm quite happy with it as it is. It comes with Elixirs, Holzfeller Oct 1.1 dh cranks, e13 LG1+ guide, Thomson elite seat post a sweet Traitor seat and two Minion front tyres.

The parts kit is impressive and fitted with Transitions own tough and affordable 36 hole Revolution rims this bike is truly worth every buck straight out of the box. I'll post pics when I'm done with it, after that it's off to the woods where it belongs.

Cheers.

Inverted skinny
As everyone currently in Finland knows we've been struggling with a lot of snow and temperatures down to -29 C so when I yesterday noticed that it was only -7 it felt like summer was here. At 22:30 I decided to go for a ride with my Covert. It was snowing as usual but I thought I'd go check out a nearby trail. The trails are usually "maintained" by people walking their dogs so I was pretty optimistic. My optimism faded quickly as I saw the "inverted skinny" like trails with about 5 cm of fresh snow. I rode a loop that is about 3 km long and my balance was really put to a test. The exciting part was that when (and if) you gained some speed you knew that as soon as you go 1 cm wide you go flying over the bars...

So to all you dog owners: WALK YOUR DOGS MORE OFTEN!!!

Traitor news
Hey, lots of news from Traitor! To start off, they will be changing the factory where the frames and forks are made. What will this mean? At least lots of customized details (lugs, dropouts, tubing to start with) and possibilities to do limited small production runs, meaning unique bikes.

The crusade should be around soon, and the Ringleader and the Luggernaut will see updates. The Ringleader with new tubing and custom dropouts and seat binder bolts (i.e. a bolt that pierces the seat stays to hold seat post in place firmly). The Luggernaut will see new lugs, tubing and cable stops. Updated versions of the bikes were supposed to be in by the end of the year, so expect some pics soon. Oh, and the Ringleader will have a new 5 piece fork, almost forgot.

For the Crusade the carbon fork was dropped for a steel one. The bike proto has seen heavy testing in the US Pacific Northwest  competitions all year, and has held up nicely.

When the protos arrive, soon, we'll have some pics up for you and also pricing information, so stay tuned!

Hotwalk
Just wanted to share this with everyone. If you have a kid and want him/her to learn how to ride a bike then buy a "running bike". I bought my son (he's about 2½ years old) a Specialized Hotwalk a week ago and he's already rolling up to 10m without touching the ground with his feet. After riding this bike all winter he won't have to use stabilisers (apupyörät) on a normal pedaling bike which is great because I think stabilisers suck...

Ride with the Coast Guard
A week ago a couple of my friends and I were invited to ride at a coast guard's trails on an old military base area. No way you can say no to that.

We got picked up by the coast guard's boat at a pier nearby and the journey began...

A large part of the island has been owned by military until last year when it was opened up to the public. The coast guard have also had a base there for over 10 years so there are surveillance towers and radars and stuff.

Well anyway, we came across cannons and bunkers and stuff like that and we got a nice guided tour as we rode.

The coast guard dudes had a sauna and a barbeque where we spent some time after riding. The weather was also very nice, it's not always 18 degrees and sunny in September, especially not out in the archipelago.

Thank you coast guard dudes for making this trip possible and thank you other guys for the company!

Where the roads are straight
Canada, Mt. Sainte Anne. Talking about delays. Here, finally are a few pics from our trip to the UCI WC DH in Mt Sainte Anne.

The track had it's share of gnar, as Mr. Palmer would put it. To brag a little: my cap now has a authentic Palm autograph, he is truly a cool and laid back guy.

Mitch Delfs sending it from the high speed corner on the race day.

It was very nice to see Hill race, he is just amazing, even though he was pissed he won!

We had to push away some of the little girls that were in front of us trying to get autographs from Peaty. He was in control and fast during the race, but you should have seen him at the after party...

We had time to do some riding on the way as well, here at Attitash, a very nice place in New Hampshire to go ride.

Overall the trip was nice, roads were straight (think we made three turns after crossing the Canadian border and all the way to Quebec) and the beer was good. Thats the way road trips should be. Over and out. Too bad Matti crashed and even worse what happened at Bromont the weekend after, the best of luck to you, and thanks for the company!

Laajavuori#3

Good track, good weather, good times. Track was fairly easy with two-three tricky parts and a lot of pedaling. Felt good on the track all weekend and was pretty confident to do good. I was hoping for rain to the race and on Saturday morning it was pissing rain. Good stuff! Track was really grippy in the wet and very fun to ride. First race run in semi wet conditions was a really good run without big mistakes and did feel like I could ride at least 3-4 seconds faster. Second run in the dry with mud tires, damn. I didn't have dry tires to put on between the runs and that pretty much screwed everything up. No grip and crappy rolling. Managed to do 1 second better run even though I was twice almost over the bars and really close to go out from the track. It was super fun and I'm happy with the fact that I've some speed. Just have to work on putting down the results in the races.

Tahko#2

Yesss!!! The trip to Tahko is done and dusted!!! Probably the best track that I've ever raced on. Really fast with rocks and roots. I had a bad crash at my local trails 3 days before the race and had my forearm stitched. The arm was not feeling good on the track and certainly not after the stitches opened up in practice. Saturday practice was good except some technical issues with the brakes and some flat tires. First race run on Sunday was really OTA just didn't pin anything on the track road really safe. Second run was OK but in a fast exiting section from the woods I bent my crank arm so that it got wedged to my chain stay. But managed to get them rolling again and after that I just tried to minimize the damage to the time and eventually was in 22nd place.

Vietnam
The Covert V2 is sweet! I can tell you that much. Our day started out by getting lost and swamped in a web of xc trails... man was I beat when we got back to the car, wasn't the bike though, just the heat and lack of hydration that caused lots of leg cramps. Funny feeling when you can't bend your leg.

Climbing a small creek.

Tired camper with old BR. Despite a heavy build and soft suspension the BR climbs like a mountain goat.

After a short brake at the car and some HC hydration we met Bob and Tony. Two stand up guys who agreed to give us the Vietnam tour and make us official vets. Vietnam has nice singletrack and fun built features to session, some drops and jumps with a few nice berm lines. I'm definetely going back, especially with the new V2 Covert, which just excels in this kind of terrain, up and down, tight corners, mid-size drops and small booters. It's a truly fun bike to ride!

Small booter followed by a small step up, a fun combination, perfect for the Covert.

Hangin' out with Bob and Tony, our guides.

Happy camper enjoying his post ride Bass, courtesy of Tony, cheers dude!

Vietnam is a place to check out, with a guide! if you happen to ride in New England and the Covert V2 is a bike to ride if you like it light, fast and smooth. A true do it all bike, that is my verdict.

A big THANKS to Markus for the pics!

V2 Covert ready for action
At last! After a bunch of misshaps, lost tools, traffic jams and other delays my sweet new ride, NO not the Volvo, the Covert is ready for action. Enjoy the pictures! Based on the few cranks I got in this evening on my home street the bike feels sweet! Smooth and soft for fast descents, but perky enough for some serious ascents too. The pro pedal on the DHX Air does its magic. Cant wait to get to Vietnam tomorrow!

Race #1
Yeah! klaukkala was a tough race for me. Saturday's practice was a disaster! Did not find any good lines, and when I found some, it went totally up side down. I tried during the Sunday morning practice to get a good rhythm going on the tracks, but did not get my head around the tracks, just didn't feel smooth. Wanted to do good in the first race and finnish top10, but eventually I got 12th place. The race concisted of two different tracks and the winner was the fastest man down.
The first track was more like a good practice run, and I didn't get the speed up on top, but the bottom part of the track was better. Track two, yeah damn! Just befor the run I noticed that I had a problem with the fork. It was all stiff and did not have any sag what so ever. And then I crashed in the first corner . After that I just tried to get down without more mistakes.
Just gotta pull it to gether in the next one in Tahko. There is a long track, times at around 1min 40s are expected, so looking foreward to that!! See you there.

Spring turned into summer!
Training for the 09 race season is going good and Im feeling confident for the races. Mostly ridden DH and two days ago found a nice 10m gap to session on and getting comfortable with larger jumps that you got to pin in to. First race of the season is in one week in Klaukkala 23-24.05. Im doing my best to be in good condition and speed right from the beginning.  Helping me get to the races is my new baby blue 1990 Volkswagen transporter with Transition stickers.

See you at the race!
cheers

First I want to thank MFB for a great -08 season. I'm very happy to work with You in -09.

Winter has been good in Turku and riding has been great! I have been at the gym 3-4 times a week and riding my Blindside 1-3 times. Other than that just chilling and trying to get myself to shape for the race season -09 that kicks off 24.5. in Klaukkala. I'll post all my race results and pictures from training and races here. So stay tuned for more.

Eurobike uutisia
Kävimme Eurobikessa moikkaamassa jenkkipoikia. Paikalla olivat Kyle, Kevin ja Sam. Muutama uutinen suoraan omasta muistista:

Avid lopettaa Juicy7 mallin. Korvaava malli Elixir tulee vakiomalliksi Transition fillareihin. Nämä ovat Kylen sanoja käyttäen "a much better break than the Juicy"

Se siitä mutta katsokaa vielä tätä:

http://www.traitorcycles.com
